This is group assignment. You will be part of a four-person team. Each team will design a video game idea that involves multiple decision points, an interface design, and a scoring system. The game must have specific goals and rules; it must incorporate examples of sound that will create mood, and must employs visual cues (e.g. line, shape, space, etc.) to guide the audience toward a specific goal.

The idea will be presented in the form of a 15-minute Powerpoint.

First: Decide whether you are designing a Game of: Skill, Chance or Strategy.

Second: As a team, determine the Game’s:

A) Goals B) Mechanics C) Objectives D) Rules

Third: Design a 15-minute Powerpoint presentation that:

A) Explains the Goals/Mechanics/Objectives/Rules

B) Demonstrates some In-game Sounds and how they influence the Game’s Objectives

C) Provides examples of characters and/or visual elements that inspire Gaming Goals

D) Explains the Interface & Console Design and how they relate to the Game Mechanics

E) Discuss whether or not Guided Perception is used in your game (and why/why not)

F) Explains why the game would actually be fun to play

Finally: Present your idea as if you were selling it to investors, rather than for a class grade.

SOLO PROJECT
Jessica Rovniak

You will be responsible for drawing two characters in detail (and in color) -- one a Hero, and the other a Villain. Each person in the team will be responsible for ONE of the characters, but the characters should be designed is such a way that it is obvious that they come from the same story/world and genre. Additionally, each person will create a stick-figure animation to demonstrate how their particular character would move (in contrast to the opposing character). Teams must present their work in the form of a 5-minute Powerpoint presentation which may include audio elements that tell a story about the characters.


First: Create/draw two characters: one Hero and one Villain. The Character Drawings must contain the following:

A) Utilization of TWO elements of color: Hue, Brightness or Saturation to create emotion

B) Utilize light/shadow to create both Symbolism and Mood;

C) Include visual details that place the character into a specific genre

D) Include visual details that illuminate the character’s Motivation

E) Contrast of Color, Shape and Tone to differentiate the Hero from the Villain


Second: In PENCIL, prepare a 30-60 second animation, demonstrating how the characters move. The animation can be simple stick figures, but must contain color and shape that differentiates the characters from one another. Animations should contain:

A) A demonstration of HOW your character moves in contrast to the other character

B) Contrast of Color and Shape to differentiate the Hero from the Villain

C) Include visual details that illuminate the character’s Motivation

D) TWO elements of color: Hue, Brightness or Saturation to differentiate character


Finally: Prepare a 5-minute Powerpoint presentation that a) introduces your character drawings and animations to the audience and b) explains how you used color light and movement to differentiate the characters from each other c) explains how your animations attempted to address the concept of “weight” and/or “squash and stretch.”


Please use the grading criteria sheet as a guide as you complete this project. You will be expected to present your finished product IN LAB on FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 25, 2011. If you have questions prior to this deadline, please let me know.

Lab Project #3A -- Video Script

INSTRUCTIONS:

For the VIDEO ASSIGNMENT, you will be part of a five-person team but for this part of the assignment, you will work individually. Each team will be provided with ONE joke. Using CELTX, each member of the team will write their own 2-3 page script based upon the one joke. EACH PERSON will turn one copy of the joke in to the Lab Instructor (with this grade sheet filled in and attached), and one copy to each of the four other members of your team. This assignment is worth 25 points and due week 5 (Friday, February 4, 2011)
